Titan of Indian Business Ratan tata Dies at 86

 In his home city of Mumbai, mourners line up to pay their respects to one of India's most successful business leaders. A household name throughout India, Rotten Tata was born in 1937, the great-grandson of the Tata Group's founder Jamshedji Tata. Ratan took over as the group chairman in 1991 In his 21 years as executive, the Tata Group sold profits multiply 50 fold. He transformed the company from a mostly domestic producer to a global industrial powerhouse. It became known abroad for acquiring the luxury car producers Land Rover, Jaguar, Tetley's Tea, and British Steel. At home ratar  Tata expanded the family brand, becoming one of the most recognizable in India, selling everything from household appliances to the Internet and media to a growing middle class. The expansion was not without its difficulties. 

He launched the Tata Nano in 2008, which was promoted as the world's cheapest car at $2000. That failed to meet sales expectations. Ratan Tata was praised as a shrewd but shy and humble businessman who didn't show off his wealth despite leading the tata group to global success. 

He also donated most of his fortune, donating millions of dollars to fund education, rural development and healthcare through the Tata Trust. And after that, the Tata-owned Taj Mahal Palace Hotel was targeted in the 2008 Mumbai attacks. He reportedly kept paying the salaries of 11 Slate employees to their families. Ratan Tata said he was left a great legacy which he tried to follow under his leadership. Tata became a symbol of India's transformative growth and economic potential.Ratan Tata was 86 years old.
